This book provides an introduction to the relevance of the foundations of contemporary special education, and illustrates the contribution of the following underpinning aspects: Legal; Conceptual; Medical; Pharmacological; Neuropsychological; Social; Behavioural; Cognitive; Psychotherapeutic; Psycholinguistic; Technological; and Pedagogical. For each aspect examples are given of how it provides insights or practical contributions to special education generally and to particular disabilities and disorders. Each chapter includes indications of the relevance of the underpinning aspect for special education, the scope of the application of the underpinning aspect to special education and/or types of disability/disorder, and fuller examples of the application of the underpinning aspect.
