Caffè Italia is an Italian course for foreign students who want to get to know the Italian language and culture, in order to travel, work, or simply for a passion of the language. Caffè Italia is a new Italian course with a modern, dynamic and effective approach. Created by an expert group of teachers, specialised in Italian for foreign students, it is based on the latest research in language and teaching methodology. Caffè Italia follows a functional-situational approach which focuses on the student at the centre of the learning process, encouraging them to discover rules and language functions by themselves. Furthermore, self-evaluation allows students to organise their learning and check their progress. The contents have been carefully chosen to reflect the Italy of today and have an emotional appeal which gets students fully involved. New language and structures are introduced through images and listening material. Visual and auditory contextualisation are enhanced by modern and attractive graphics and high quality recordings. The choice of expressions and the use of professional speakers ensure the dialogues reflect the spoken language. Visual contextualisation introduces the topic and stimulates students imaginations. Words and images to activate prior knowledge. Spiral learning Vocabulary and structures are first introduced and are then revised andbuilt on, so as to encourage the process of language acquisition; the learning process is gradual and coherent. Functional grammar Grammar is presented and systematically activated in exercises which facilitate comprehension and ensure the correct use of structures. Communicative approach The course places the student at the centre of the learning process, developing the skills required to carry out activities in class in an autonomous and personal way. Dialogues and texts allow students to progress from an oral comprehension and writing task to the efficient use of structures and functions presented. Authentic material Images, newspaper articles, poetry and literature excerpts from a range of Italian writers, dialogues, conversations, songs and websites all contribute to creating a true and fascinating image of Italy. Grammar tables for students to complete, engage students in the learning process and facilitate systematisation of structures and language functions. The corner dedicated to authentic materials: a selection of authentic Italian materials makes students feel as though they are living in Italy. Italia Oggi: a page containing information and interesting news regarding topics of culture, clearly presented and full of images. Fun activities to practise and recycle language. A flexible course Caffè Italia is ideal for intensive courses with a fast learning pace, as well as for courses with a more gradual progression which allows students and teachers to make detailed use of the wealth of materials offered. Self-evaluation and self-study skills to help students.
